Their dominant advantage is convenience. You can order what you want, when you want and it's always available. How often do you leave a store because they didn't have what you were looking for? And they remember your purchases. You want to replace something you bought 3-4 years ago, if it's available anywhere, they have it - and they remember exactly what it was you bought And their customer "comments" offer much more useful information than any advertising.
