David Brat: Catholic, Calvinist, and Libertarian, Oh My!
Julie Ingersoll | Associate Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Florid
(h/t Kevin Fathi)
"how Christians can obey the bible’s prohibition on usury (charging interest on loans) and at the same time function in our capitalist world,"
ReplyDeleteThe law only applied to the house of Israel... this woman is a moron.
rsp,
I worry about Brat, with him simultaneously being a Randian atheist and a Calvinist. How does that work, exactly?
ReplyDeleteHe says he is not a Randian but appreciates her emphasis on the free market.
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be in the same boat as Paul Ryan.
Brat is also a practicing Catholic. That's where I see the contradiction with Calvinist theology.
Calivinism vs. Roman Catholicism
There is also a contradiction between Calvin's denial of free will in favor of predestination and the freedom of choice that lies at the heart of economic and political liberalism.
I don't yet understand Brat's views on these matters.
