In 1850, when Western nations were the richest on earth, capitalists created the first market economy. By privatizing credit, land, and labor, they allowed human society to be regulated by the market. In 1950, when China was the poorest nation on earth, communists created an organic economy by subordinating credit, land, and labor to the service of society and trusting the government to regulate it. In 2020, after growing twice as fast, China’s economy is overtaking market economies in two important aspects: eliminating poverty and inequality.

They didn’t grow until their USD Zombies took over... once they were made able to go after USD balances they took off their commie Mao jackets for Brooks Brothers and things turned around for them...
It’s called “soft power”... It didn’t work they are still commies...
Trump has put a clock on it and is shutting it down and their USD zombies and the US elites that have been profiting from it too are FREAKING OUT....
Nov 3 will provide some additional guidance from the US voters on which option they want...
It’s called “soft power”... It didn’t work they are still commies...
ReplyDeleteFranko
Why should it work when the US has massive internal problems of its own (such as a huge prison population)?
What if, instead of being a "light on a hill", the US is exporting a corrupt system to the rest of the world and the commies, like the US used to be, are determined not to be overcome by it?
Ever read "the wine of her adultery" (Revelation 14:8)?
Figurative language... try saying it in literal language or in real terms...
ReplyDeleteStop projecting, Franko.
Delete“the Wine of her adultery”
ReplyDelete???????
I have no clue what that means in literal or real terms....
Here:
ReplyDelete“And another messenger did follow, saying, `Fall, fall, did Babylon, the great city, because of the wine of the wrath of her whoredom she hath given to all nations to drink.'“
Ancient Babylon was destroyed by the Medo-Persians 1000s of years ago...

It already happened...
How is this related to today’s problems where we have incompetent art degree morons in control fucking everything up?
China's economic performance has been so much better than the rest of the world's, for so long, that "incompetent no-degree morons" is a good label for everywhere else. Under Mao there were a lot of crazy things done, but as he perfectly well knew, it was a state-building period that set the country up for what came afterwards.
ReplyDeleteIf "zombies" means they were mercantilist, well that is how every other country in the world developed too. It was good for both China and the rest of the world, particularly the USA. China's or Japan's or whatever's zombie-ism was a great benefit to us. But that period is starting to end. Trump's current insane and dangerous antics hurt everyone, the USA much more than China. Ditto for the Dem's insane and dangerous Russiagate antics against Trump.
Look at the coronavirus response - China had much less warning, quickly and efficiently surmounted it with less authoritarianism and lockdown than the USA. Because they're competent and have the can-do spirit. Very like the USA in the middle of the last century, while we have become a nation of Ah Q's who make endless excuses and call other countries infantile names.
"have the can-do spirit."
ReplyDeleteRight. The difference between market socialism and neoliberal capitalism is "we are all in this together" (China) and "It's every man for himself and screw the women and children" (US and much of the West). It shows.
The West is as capable of collective action as any culture, but its being wasted by incompetence.
ReplyDelete“ Trump's current insane and dangerous antics hurt everyone, the USA much more than China. Ditto for the Dem's insane and dangerous Russiagate antics against Trump.”
ReplyDeleteSays you.... I would say it only hurts the elites who are benefiting from the former policy...
Now we go vote Nov 3 and if trump elected he keeps his policy reforms going if he loses back to old policies...
“China's economic performance has been so much better than the rest of the world's, for so long, that "incompetent no-degree morons" is a good label for everywhere“
ReplyDeleteOh please all they have done for last 25 years is arbitraged the labor and production cost differential between their low USD cost trapeze net slave factories and the higher USD cost western union negotiated labor and production conditions...
Even if Trump is defeated, US economic nationalism may find a new pied piper.
ReplyDeleteMatt, if you believe what you wrote, I have a bridge to sell you, you are sorely deluded. Their internal market and development, like anywhere else is more important than the international sector. Without exception in human history, they've developed more and faster than anywhere else. All the US dollars they accumulate through this "arbitrage" - have of course no direct effect on their development.
ReplyDeleteAlmost all Chinese live a much better life than their parents. While Americans are leading lives in many ways worse and almost always more precarious than their parents. They're competent. Our economic policies are somewhat better than Europe's, but still deserve an F in comparison to China's.
As for dangerous antics - alienating and threatening China and Russia for no reason whatsoever, increasing threats of nuclear war. It's insane. Basic MMT: the US, and the whole country, not just elites, benefited directly from China's mercantilism, what if I understand you correctly you foolishly deplore as USD zombie-ism. Cheap stuff in WalMart is a good thing. Period.
Trump wasn't all bad, but when he wasn't the Dems usually fought him. Thought he would win re-election, but unless he steals it, looks like he will lose and deserve to lose, over his mentally retarded handling of coronavirus.
ReplyDeleteThe West is as capable of collective action as any culture, but its being wasted by incompetence
I would seriously question that Peter. At least as far as US is concerned
We are incapable right now of action which ignores politics/ tribe affiliation and to some degree that’s necessary. We have some toxic ideologies that need excising. We can always manufacture consent for war against a foreign entity and we don’t even need broad popular opinion to be behind military action anymore, just consent of the troops.
The social conservatives have been fighting against a broad swath of their culture for decades. They have been brainwashed by churches that they are fighting demonic evil forces, not friends and neighbors who simply see things differently...... and it’s largely a “white” culture thing
I wish they would just be like the Amish and just go create insular self sustaining communities that reflect their values, however twisted they might be, and just stay the fuck out of nation building and trying to change the whole world to their way......often at tip of sword.
I know this, after the last four years I will never go into any kind of project on any scale which requires me to sacrifice anything for a Trumpster. They have shown their cards and what they want and it is repulsive
A pandemic isn't a partisan issue. Americans might have risen to the occasion had their leadership been competent, or at least consistent.
ReplyDeleteIf a devastating earthquake leveled a major city, would Americans not pull together to send the relief that was needed?

Consent for war is easier with a volunteer army... which is why conscription/mandatory service should be instated. Seems to be associated with notions of masculinity too.
. which is why conscription/mandatory service should be instated. Peter Pan
ReplyDeleteDon't think so since involuntary combat does not seem be God's will:
“When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you. When you are approaching the battle, the priest shall come near and speak to the people. He shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, you are approaching the battle against your enemies today. Do not be fainthearted. Do not be afraid, or panic, or tremble before them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’ The officers also shall speak to the people, saying, ‘Who is the man that has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him depart and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would dedicate it. Who is the man that has planted a vineyard and has not begun to use its fruit? Let him depart and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would begin to use its fruit. And who is the man that is engaged to a woman and has not married her? Let him depart and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would marry her.’ Then the officers shall speak further to the people and say, ‘Who is the man that is afraid and fainthearted? Let him depart and return to his house, so that he might not make his brothers’ hearts melt like his heart.’ When the officers have finished speaking to the people, they shall appoint commanders of armies at the head of the people Deuteronomy 20:1-9 [bold added]
If children were conscripted to fight in wars, there would be objections from the population. That is how you deter non-essential wars.
ReplyDeleteGod, the generals, the officers... the're all for sending men, women, children to their deaths.
You should note that the "bloody Old Testament" is quite a bit more nuanced than many people, e.g. those who haven't read all of it, give it credit for.
ReplyDeleteBut that's life too, eh? Haste makes waste?
The Bible makes clear that God had anger management issues. Since then, He's lightened up, but maybe that is just the calm before His next eruption.
ReplyDeleteI should add that the only war a conscript army should fight is defensive; i.e. on its own territory. But in that case, there would likely be plenty of volunteers.
