Ambrose Evans-Pritchard — Father of the euro fears EU superstate by the back door
Professor Otmar Issing has warned against handing over control of tax and spending before a democratic political union has been established
Could be argued that the basic aim of the founding fathers was to ease the people of Europe into a superstate without them realizing what was happening.
Jean Monnet in a letter to a friend 30th April 1952: "Europe's nations should be guided towards the super-state without their people understanding what is happening. This can be accomplished by successive steps, each disguised as having an economic purpose, but which will eventually and irreversibly lead to federation."

Yes, this was the intention of the Europeanizers from the get-go.
ReplyDeleteOne reason was to create a Europe that was equal or superior in power to the US, and the rising behemoths, China and India.
Without forming a superstate, the nations of Europe would be eclipsed in the future by the big players.
No doubt a lot of people still think this way with China rising and setting its sights on Eurasia, which includes not only Asia but also Europe.
Some are already pushing for a European defense force independent of NATO. Of course, the US opposes that.
