Upping the ante.
Are Europeans being inundated with Syrian refugees paying attention?

Tom,
ReplyDeleteThe only ISIS positions that the US bombs are the ones that Turkey wants, not those that are necessarily important in hurting ISIS, a crucial distinction while ISIS are taking the fight to Assad. Meanwhile Turkey either bombs Kurdish targets or looks on happily while ISIS goes to work on the Kurds, all under the gaze of the US which understands that Turkey is more valuable than the Kurds could ever be.
Yet again the US screws over the naive, trusting Kurds. As Kissinger explained when he lured the Kurds into a mass slaughter at the hands of Saddam Hussein: "Covert action should not be confused with missionary work." US interests trump all.
And let's not forget that the US does not strike any ISIS targets threatening Assad's forces, the one and only fighting force that is in a position to seriously threaten ISIS.
You guys are funny... when a Democrat does it, it is "the US!"... when a GOPer does it, it is "the Republicans!"....
ReplyDeleteYour partisanship is laughable.
Not guilty, as you can see above: no use of the words Democrats or Republicans. I hate them equally.
ReplyDeleteI try to use the term "Washington", but sometimes forget and use "US", for the very obvious reason that Washington does not represent America. Why else does Washington (the bought and paid for politicians and the lobbyists) hide what it does from the American public? Because Americans wouldn't countenance this criminality.
There is very little difference between Democrats and Republicans on foreign and military policy (there is a little on domestic policy). Alleged pinko peacenik Jimmy Carter wanted to spend more on the military than Reagan, and the neoliberal economics later made famous as Reaganomics started under Carter. And if you look at super pinko peacenik Bernie Sanders voting record, it's as bad as anything the nutty brigade in the Republicans are condemned for by progessives.
Obama has been much worse than Dubya on many fronts: disregard for civil liberties and targeting of whistle blowers are two instances where he blows Dubya right out of the water. And Clinton was the guy who rammed through all the reactionary stuff on welfare, finance and banking, NAFTA, etc, that the Republicans never could.
If I ever say slur Republicans by indicating that they're somehow cut from a different cloth than the Democrats, I deserve to be reprimanded. I'd far prefer to have a beer with Ron Paul or Michael Bloomberg than Bernie Sanders or Hilary Clinton.
John, "Washington" will do, but the technical term for it in US political jargon is "The Bubble," as in "inside the The Bubble."
