In the above Tweet, Assange has juxtaposed a neo-Nazi torch march in Kiev with the far-right torch march in Charlottesville. Apart from the torches, it is clear that the Ukrainian fascists were far more equipped for violence as they were wearing bullet-proof combat gear and facial coverings. The Duran
Julian Assange asks why the US said nothing when Obama supported Ukrainian neo-Nazis

They don't identify as Ukrainians...
ReplyDeleteIt's all about identity...
They didn't identify as Ukrainians? That's all they identified as. The Donbass residents were described as "rebels," Russian interferers in their national claims. They wouldn't acknowledge the "rebels" as Ukrainians. And neither would Victoria Nuland or Obama.

ReplyDeleteBeware Ukraine's Rising Right Sector

As conditions grew more violent, Ukrainians overlooked ideological differences and joined forces with Right Sector against the pro-Russian government as a common enemy. As their numbers swelled, Right Sector became the catalyzing force that eventually helped to remove Yanukovych from power.

A leading figure in the Right Sector, Andriy Tarasenko, says it aims not for closer ties with Europe but rather to "build a nationalist Ukrainian state and stage a nationalist revolution".

The CIA overthrew the democratic government of Ukraine when they opted to join the Russian Federation instead of the EU. Looking at what Brussels has done to Europe, who could blame them?
ReplyDeletePost coup, Ukrainians who didn't recognize the illegitimate government were labeled rebels and war on them commenced. Crimea refused to recognize the illegitimate government and rejoined Russia - propagandized as "annexation".
A look at a pipeline map explains part of this, as does Putin's 'interference' in Syria (brokering the deal to remove chemical weapons, thereby forestalling the imminent US invasion. The rest of course is more of the same, new territory for Monsanto and other US corporations, the MIC (now dumping advanced weapons there), etc.

ReplyDeleteFollow the money, which is often connected with oil and natural gas.
I have seen speculation that the push is now on to make the US the dominant supplier gloablly as a result of the reinvigoration of US oil and natural gas production as a result of development of new technology, e.g., fracking, and that this is driving foreign policy.
The US military is a vital component of corporate globalization. And it's not that we want all the oil and gas, it's that we want to control it. Global domination of energy and by extension economics.
ReplyDeleteUkraine has a huge debt ($140b?) at the imf...
ReplyDeleteAlthough a couple years old now, for the obvious and willfully ignorant here, this a pretty good overview by Rutger's Professor Alexander Motyl on fascism and its contemporary role in Ukraine -

By every measure, fascism as a viable political element in Ukraine has diminished starting with the 2014 elections that saw the Svoboda Party loss of 30 of its 37 seats in parliament. On the other hand, Russia has for some time easily met all 14 conditions of a fascist state -

- and that has only increased since.
For my academic friends in the field, I offered this website as an example of how deep the deep Putin propaganda machine goes. This site has not disappointed in that regard.

ReplyDeleteRight, and it was really the Antifa that caused the violence in Charlottesville (snark)
Fascism is a political theory based on authoritarian rule, nationalism, traditionalism, racism, and the use of violence. Fascism exists in states that are not fascist. There are self-identifies fascists in the US, which does't mean that the US is a fascist state, although I would argue that the US has been on the road to becoming a soft fascist state since 9/11.
The Azov Battalion in in the Ukraine meets the general criteria of hard fascism and it is still a force in their and wrecking violence both against the Eastern Ukrainians and Ukrainians under Kiev that they disagree with.
How prevalent are far right nationalists in Ukraine? An introduction to the new Ukraine by Matt Florence.
Ukraine is not a fascist state but an oligarchy rules by billionaires. It is considered a failed state that completely corrupt.
The lenders are just trying to support the regime that they think gives them the best chance of paying them back ...
ReplyDeleteThe lenders already got paid back with the first IMF bailout. Money went to French and German banks, just like the Greek bailout. Ditto to the oligarchs. It's the people of the Ukraine who have zip.
