There are three aspects of dialectic.
- The first is logical dialectic, as exemplified in Hegel's Logic.
- The second is epistemological dialectic, as in this Lenin quote.
- The third is historical dialectic as demonstrated in the Hegel's Phenomenology and also in the works of Marx and Engels.
They all involve circular-cyclical progression in terms of the whole rather than the assumption of linear "progress" toward either a goal or an infinite horizon such as was exhibited in much 19th and 20th century Western thinking.
