Professor John T. Harvey joins Mikenormaneconomics as a Contributor
In my ongoing effort to make this blog the preeminent MMT and economics blog in the blogosphere I am pleased to annnounce another great coup! John Harvey will be contributing articles on a regular basis. Professor Harvey teaches economics at Texas Christian University with a specialty in post-Keynesian economics. He is also extremely knowledgeablein MMT and recently had an article published in Forbes.com entitled, "The Big Danger in Cutting the Deficit."
I want to personally welcome professor Harvey and I look forward to his contributions as I'm sure you all are as well.
-Mike Norman
Thanks, Mike, I'm excited to be here! I've already got my first post in mind, but am unfortunately a little snowed under at the moment--exams to grade, a college event plan, in-laws arriving this weekend, and I need to work on my new Forbes.com blog, too (the address to which I'll post here once it's set up). I hope to add something a little different and useful to the conversation here. My focus, as you mentioned, is Post-Keynesian economics more than must MMT (which I see as subset thereof). I'll see if I can't touch on issues that aren't otherwise discussed as much here.

Sounds great! Looking forward to reading whatever you post as I'm sure others are as well.
ReplyDeleteWelcome aboard, John. Look forward to it.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the sex pistols, Prof Harvey has a pretty good taste in music. I like him already!
ReplyDeleteWHAT! How dare you!
ReplyDeleteListening to Black Flag at the moment. Ahhhh, real music!
Some of my musician friends tell me that the Sex Pistols are in the category of musicians' musicians. One of then even rates them all-time number one.
ReplyDeleteThey were certainly theatrical! I have to say that I honestly like their music, but for pure listening pleasure I'll take The Who (of course, Pete Townshend was a big Sex Pistols fan!).
ReplyDeletethe point of the sex pistols is that anyone can grasp a guitar - not because of the guitar's simplicity but because the pomp and glam of the 70's was a farce and undemocratic was the overskilled riffing of art rock, even jazz was elitist.
ReplyDeleteif MMT is going to be anything close to liberating itself as well as being accessible to more people, then it might have to have some shock value to knock off the Governor Perry Pompador haircuts as well as the elitist Noam Chomsky's ... both of which surprisingly are in the same boat when it comes to "tax payer on the hook" reasoning for their agendas.
Public Image LTD is even better than the sex pistols, though I have repeatedly referenced the Clash's "Clampdown" for referring to the on-going finger pointing and the labor grinders who are shipping jobs abroad while deficit cutting here.
Agreed, Googleheim. MMT needs some outrageous theater to get free publicity.
ReplyDeleteI loved PIL's first couple of albums, in particular. By the way, if you happened to see John Lydon's legendary interview on Tom Snyder's Tomorrow Show some years back, it's now available on DVD! Watched it all over again last month--hilarious!
ReplyDeleteVoila!
