Unbelievable. Should be on every front page nationwide.
Massive unemployment & a huge Output Gap here, but With Improved Ties, Pakistan Gets $1.18B From US to buy stuff from rich US traders who outsource much of it to overseas mfg - with graft & corruption every step of the way.
And this is a near daily event.
Name a US state or domestic public program that couldn't use that $1.18Billion more productively (for us, the fiat "spenders") than Pakistan could?
This is unproductive from the start (wrong goal) and made more unproductive by execution (wrong methods).
The unifying logic seems to be class war across any & all countries, with all policy ultimately explained as just another way for the 1% anywhere to keep extracting mindlessly from the 99% anywhere. It's individual hoarding behavior run amok.
There are pockets of sense, where we actually hoard coordination capabilities instead (e.g., DoD training & R&D) ... but the returns from those isolated pockets are still largely diverted to personal hoarding, through perverted methods. What a mess.
If we're going to wage war anywhere, do so for a clear Public Purpose, do so Openly, and do so entirely Publicly ... not via private contracting and bribing one failed nation in order to loot another? If we're not going to pursue return-on-coordination in EVERYTHING we do, we may as well not bother pursuing it anywhere!
We're purposely neglecting the lagging capabilities of the US electorate ... who are so far accepting it meekly.

and still no singlepayer
ReplyDeleteThe electorate is supporting this.
ReplyDeleteThat is, the portion of the electorate that financially benefits from selling goods to Pakistan.
If I sold fake dog poop, and I was your average "screw you, I want yours" voter, then I too would support my customers being given government subsidies.
Actually, if you'll excuse me and if you'll pardon me, the foodstamp industry in the US is a huge cash cow for corporations who lobby for them. With more foodstamps in voter hands, the more cash that grocery store chains receive. Indeed, there is even a perverse incentive for these chains to lobby AGAINST removing junk foods from the list of approved foods for foodstamps!
The "good" voter who is against all this, is POWERLESS to change it. His single vote CANNOT affect these events. Democracy is only able to change such things if the majority wants it. If you're right, but you're in the minority, then if you support democracy, then you're going to have to suck it up and take it, because that's what happens to those in the minority who are right.
