Cartoon Government Urgently Discusses FIAT CLIFF

commentary by Roger Erickson

Does watching grownups in Congress tie themselves in knots over a FIAT CLIFF remind you of someone?

Like Friar Tuck & Robin Hood (aka, Porky Pig & Daffy Duck) ?

Senate negotiators yet to reach 'fiscal cliff' deal as clock winds down
Vice President Joseph Biden and Sen. Mitch McConnell were locked in urgent talks late Sunday over the “fiscal cliff” after Democrats offered several significant concessions on taxes, including a proposal to raise rates only on earnings over $450,000 a year.

I mean, really! Don't they know the electorate is watching?

You have to wonder what Biden & McConnell were discussing so urgently. Maybe a "buck & a quarter" staff? :(

Maybe they're actually trying to raise the Unenjoyment Rate? And failing, because our government has become a joke?  Daft Lame Duck & the Fiat Cliff?  Have their agent call Warner Bros.  And add a clause about raising the Minimum Rage while they're at it.

  1. The problem is a vast majority of the electorate believes that reducing the gov't debt is extremely important and they view the debt as a drag on the economy and a burden to their kids and grandkids. As long as this belief remains, this will be the way we proceed.

  2. There's nothing you can do about it except try to make money off of this widespread ignorance. In America, if you have money, you're fine.

  3. If people are fearful of the deficit and debt, then why not tax the upper classes as opposed to increasing the point to $400k? I actually think that would be what most would want. But the political class will not allow it. This whole affair is indeed a "cartoon", one in which the 99% have little say.

  4. Makes a mockery of "democracy" and shows the degree to which privilege counts as everything socially, politically, and economically. America has turned into the place that the European colonists fled from. We now live in an empire that patrols the world and makes it safe for predation, while the homeland is run for the elite.

  5. As Jasper Fforde put it, there's an urgent need to reduce the stupidity surplus! ;)
