As pointed out by John Loftus (retired US govt. prosecutor and military officer; author of America's Nazi Secret pub. in 2010), who resigned because his superior officers refused to allow his investigations to go forward, a significant number of upper level members of the intelligence agencies apparently have personal agendas which contrast with so-called "official policies" of said governmental spying agencies. The upshot is that one would be simply foolish to trust statements from spokes-persons for such. One of the consequences was the granting of US citizenship to numerous Nazi criminals over a 15-20 year interval following WW 2. It would likely be silly to expect that things have changed for the better.
