Bill gets a bad rap hung on him by a politician with parliamentary immunity. It's pretty much what we can expect as MMT gains ground and is attacked by the mainstream.

First of all, slandering dissenters with the "Marxism", "communist", "socialist" labels is not news. It's an old, tried and proven tactic. So much so that in the Preamble of the Manifesto of the Communist Party (written in 1848) we can read:
ReplyDelete"Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?"
Second, in fact, many so-called "bleeding-hearts" take great delight in doing exactly the same:

And I may have missed them, but I've seen no adverse reactions to that; no comment, nothing really. Everybody looking somewhere else.

The expected reaction is to cower in fear. But, ultimately, one's reaction to that kind of things is a matter of choice.
Incidentally, I am a Marxist. No "somewhat" in that.
ReplyDeleteBill is a bit left of centre. I have no problem with that at all. And unlike many left wing bigots, I don't reject anyone's views just because they are right of centre.
