Gallup — Americans Losing Confidence in All Branches of U.S. Gov't
Matt, The Gipper is smiling in his grave because he knows Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem along with all his NeoLiberal Dems. They cut out government services and government spending and then point to a malfunctioning government as proof of the need to cut more.
Roger, That is because they keep electing "Snakes in Suits" For they come across as very likeable, and can easily be all things to all people. It is difficult to admit that one was fooled for the umpteenth time. Causes too much cognition. The easy way out is voter apathy, which just exacerbates the situation.
The important takeaway from the study is that US politics is perceived as dysfunction by the electorate, and it's a small step from political dysfunction to societal dysfunction, especially when polarization is so great. Another study shows how the US society and social relationships are dividing are dividing along ideological lines. The Internet is furthering this bifurcation by providing ideological venues that unite proponents and separate by ideological preference. This suggests that it is becoming not only increasing difficult to govern but also just to get along with each other across the divide.
BTW, banks used to encourage the illusion that deposits are sequestered by prominently displaying a thick steel door leading to the vault right behind the teller windows, suggesting "Your money is safe with us." I haven't seen that lately but it used to be common.
Hey, at least you guys are lucky in that you have lived long enough to remember some of the better, more positive times....all I've ever known of the US is corruption and dysfunction. My first eye opening experience to US politics was Bush v Gore, and it only went downhill from there...
Keep on rockin' in the libertarian world...
