The recent agreement between the USA and Russia really solves nothing, it does not even end the war, and both sides are expressing a great deal of caution about its future implementation. Cold War rhetoric. Russia has little to gain in Syria apart from keeping access to a naval base. In return for propping up Assad, they will become the target of terrorist attacks. Lost in all this cheerleading is any pretense of "fighting terrorism" or resolving longstanding conflicts. According to this mindset, this is all about getting one up on the US.
