Sophia Tesfaye — Mutiny at Foggy Bottom: State Department management resigns en masse

Draining the Swap edition. These people left before they were fired.

Clean out the top levels at State and the intelligence services and let the lower levels know that politicization is streng verboten.

Otherwise prepare to be run by the deep state.

  2. Great news! One government department down, 8,237 to go.

Of course the bad news is the positions will all be filled by the next generation of corporate stooges.

  3. Would they have been fired? If they were Deep Staters they'd have stayed and fought to the bitter end, and probably won. These staffers, like the NSC staffers who've left, have got better things to do than waste four years working for someone they think is not up to the job. Apparently Trump is finding it difficult to fill many positions. Very few "qualified" people want to work for him, and I use the word "qualified" advisedly. The US would probably be a lot better off if the state department simply hired high school dropouts. A lot less propaganda and warmongering would come out of the place. Those particular talents require an Ivy League education and a head befuddled with witless notions of exceptionalism and indispensability.

The Deep State is a reflection of the people who own the country. Unless Trump is going to somehow eliminate the power of those who own the country, which can only mean taking away their money which is the source of their power, then he's going to have to find a way of co-opting them, which in itself is next to impossible given how they detest him. The people who own the country also happen to be the very same people who have paid untold amounts of money to the senators and congressmen to get their way. I can't see a bought and paid for politician turning on his contributors because Trump has decided that there's a new sheriff in town and he's gonna clean up this here town.

Trump's got an inflated sense of himself if he thinks he can take on the political establishment, the military, the intelligence services, the foreign affairs establishment, Wall Street, the corporations, and for that matter every country in the world. If he can pull it off, he'll go down as the most brilliant politician who has ever lived. On this at least, good luck to him!

  4. These were the political appointees, including Victoria "Color Revolution" Nuland. As a matter of course, they all offer their resignations when a new administration takes over. THe difference is that Tillerson accepted them all, and thanked them for their service.

The signal here is that the administration policies will not be continuations of the old policies.

  5. Unknown, so no different to all previous handovers then? The liberal circus is making a big deal of Trump not being able to attract qualified candidates to the NSC after so many resignations. Trump should be thankful. What does the NSC do anyway, other than write papers full of propaganda? Someone who reads the so-called alternative media could write much more informed papers. The people who write here at MNE could write more informed papers about Russia, China, the EU, etc!

Qualified here means according to their standards. That is the point.

In their view, anyone that Trump appoints is automatically unqualified.

    Vicious circle.
