University of Southampton — Study reveals substantial evidence of holographic universe
And all the host of heaven will wear away, And the sky will be rolled up like a scroll; All their hosts will also wither away As a leaf withers from the vine, Or as one withers from the fig tree. Isaiah 34:4 [bold added]
Think about it. All one knows is one's own experience, one's reflection on it and affect, plus information from others' experience and reflection that is communicated.
That experience and reflection is a construct of the nervous system. Most of the rest of the body supports the brain and sensors. The arms and legs provided the ability to act on experience and the vocal apparatus to communicate about experience and reflection.
Experience that which is immediate, including sensory phenomena and mental activity. It is "the given."
Experience occurs within "consciousness." Without consciousness there is no experience or reflection.
Consciousness is also immediate but most people never know it directly, "in itself," apart from experience and reflection.
Experience and mental activity are changing, while consciousness is unchanging as the ground of experience and refection, and also affect.
When sensation and mental activity ceases, consciousness is alone by itself. This occurs in deep sleep but not dreaming or waking state. Consciousness is not conscious of itself in deep sleep.
The fourth state awareness in addition to waking, dreaming and deep sleep is pure consciousness. This occurs when sensation and mental activity cease and consciousness remains conscious. This state is "pure consciousness."
More theory gone bonkers. Susskind laid out this bonkers nonsense some time ago to great acclaim. Difficult problems are explained by untestable many worlds, many universes, 26 dimensional spacetime that has been rolled into tiny distances leaving the four we have, a two dimensional hologram giving the appearance of three dimensions, or my favourite piece of gibberish that's being taken seriously, the universe and everything in it is a computer simulation of higher beings! And it's all junk.
Theoretical physics hasn't taken an inch forward in about thirty years, and because the universe gets ever stranger with more detailed observation, the theorists, totally bewildered as they are in the face of these amazing discoveries, instead create ever more fanciful and untestable theories. Theoretical physics has very little to do with the physical world. It's an extremely abstract area of pure mathematics. These "physicists" should do physics a favour by resigning their positions and instead taking their rightful places in mathematics departments. Real physicists can take their places, otherwise this farce will never end.
There is a place inside of each one of us, where mind cannot go.
”And all that is between you and this possibility, is a simple veil. A simple veil, when lifted, to be able to see, to be able to understand, to be able to appreciate.” [Prem R.]

People born blind or deaf can never experience sound or light; they, however, know of sound and light, not by their own experience, but by other people's experience. Hence, the sense of loss they often feel.
Similarly, none of us experienced the fall of Rome, the big bang, the French Revolution or an untold number of things. Still, we know those things happened.

The same may occur in reading the testimony of the mystics.
In the link in my comment above A Possibility - below the video frame is a link Get the Keys.
Choose your country and follow the prompts. In Australia you can choose between a USB or DVD, and the cost is $15AUD (covers distribution and production).
Sorry, the Keys are not available to stream online - but after watching you will probably agree the delivery method is more suitable. Enjoy if you end up watching them Bob.
"People born blind or deaf can never experience sound or light ...."
Not according to the poet Kabir ....
The moon shines in my body, but my blind eyes cannot see it: The moon is within me, and so is the sun. The unstruck drum of Eternity is sounded within me; but my deaf ears cannot hear it.
So long as man clamours for the 'I' and the 'Mine', his works are as naught: When all love of the 'I' and the 'Mine' is dead, then the work of the Lord is done. For work has no other aim than the getting of knowledge: When that comes, then work is put away.
The flower blooms for the fruit: when the fruit comes, the flower withers. The musk is in the deer, but it seeks it not within itself: it wanders in quest of grass.

Thanks for the book, I'll give it a read. But Seth explained how the universe worked in his book "The Nature of the Psyche" written in he seventies.

ReplyDeleteIt's all in the mind, you know.
ReplyDeleteWho here has had experience with holographic kidney stones?

In his 'simplified' version of A Brief History of Time, Hawking ends up at God.

"Experience" is not an straightforward notion.

ReplyDeleteYes, this what has gotten philosophers thinking in the past.

See aporia, puzzlement.
