As Yemen’s population has teetered on the brink of mass starvation in recent months, the United States has played a crucial role in enabling the Saudi strategy responsible for that potential humanitarian catastrophe.
Both the Obama and Trump administrations have prioritized the US’s alliance with the Saudis and their Gulf allies over the lives of hundreds of thousands of Yemenis under imminent threat of starvation.
The Trump administration has gone even further in supporting the Saudi strategy. Whereas the Obama administration opposed a Saudi-led coalition offensive to regain control over the main port of Hodeidah and the rest of the Red Sea coast, saying it would worsen the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, the Trump administration has clearly given the green light to the Saudis to launch that offensive.

I tried to get the paragraphs closer together but it didn't work. I'll have to experiment with it a bit.
ReplyDeleteLoad the copy into a text editor, a plain text editor. If using a Mac, use Notes or TextEdit. If using Win, find the generic text editor. Select All and make the copy plain text, then take it into Blogger and italicize/bold/whatever [format] there. unless you're proficient in Word and understand Styles correctly, don't use Word.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping someone would help me. Thanks, MRW.
DeleteThe world can be so cruel. The public have no idea. I might try to put this out on the Guardian Comment is Free, but they might remove it, especially if I put out a link to AntiWar.com, so I won't do that.
ReplyDeleteKaivey, read this from Colonel Lang's site: http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2017/05/trump-changes-gear-strategic-syria-policy-now-lies-with-tillerson-and-lavrov-by-alastair-crooke-12-m.html
ReplyDeleteWell, that's the most encouraging thing I have read for a while. I might put it out.
DeleteThe MO of MENA is to control the food supply to control the people.... this is textbook MENA 101...
ReplyDeleteGets stronger as their food deficit increases...
Encouraging, yes; realistic, no.
ReplyDeleteHey, why doesn't Trump change gears regarding Yemen?
ReplyDeleteBob, never heard of the USS Cole that went in the here for fuel?
ReplyDeletePaybacks are hell....
Wasn't the same faction the Saudis are fighting...
ReplyDeleteThere is little to no concern in US for the plight of Yemen...
ReplyDeleteThere is from Colonel Lang. He was assigned to work with the Yemeni years ago and knows the terrain, the culture, and their fighting spirit (the Houthi). Also speaks their language.
ReplyDeleteBob, why not realistic? It was written by Alastair Crooke, who knows the terrain. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alastair_Crooke
ReplyDeleteIt's not realistic because the borders imposed by the Sykes-Picot agreement have not resulted in peace.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, but the point of Crooke's article was to say that the 30-year-old Saudi Prince thought he had Trump under his thumb,, and would bomb Iran for him. Crooke, ex-high level MI6 and ME Intel director, says not so fast.
ReplyDeleteMatt: "Bob, never heard of the USS Cole that went in the here for fuel?"
ReplyDeleteThat makes zero sense, even negative sense. Al Qaeda blew up the USS Cole. It had nothing to do with Yemen or Yemenis, who have been the target of the Saudi jihad, which the US arms to the teeth and coordinates the jihadi attacks with intelligence and satellite technology. By your logic, the people of New York should be targeted by jihadis and its people starved to death in retaliation for 9/11. Let's not give Drumpf any ideas...
Unfortunately the Saudi prince is not alone. There are other thumbs for Trump to evade. Btw, Syria is just a sideshow compared to Iran, except maybe for John McCain.
