Know doubt at the next election the Conservatives won't have such a disastrous manifesto, but Corbyn will have had more time to build up a grassroots movement by then which bypasses the media. This had been his plan because he knew there was no point in just trying to appeal to people only through the right wing, pro establishment media.

The Real News.com: Hung Parliament a Stunning Victory for Corbyn's Labour Party in UK Elections
Although Labour lost, last night's election results are considered a stunning historic victory for Corbyn. Down in the low 20's in the polls during the start of the election campaign he took Labour to over 40% at the end. Right from when Corbyn first became leader of the Labour Party the media have been trying to destroy him, and even the Guardian was against him, although during the election they changed to support him. To overcome all this while being nothing like a typical politician and while running on an uncompromising traditional left wing platform shows how much people wanted change. Let the momentum continue. Congratulations Jeremy Corbin!

Hear, hear! Long live Jezza!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. A manufactured scandal or two will be used to discredit Corbin. Maybe something like Russian election hacking ...
ReplyDeleteYeah, you've got it. The CIA and the British establishment will do everything they can to stop Corbyn. They have all end power and can manipulate the media.
DeleteJust got this email from Neil Lawson from the Progressive Alliance. He believes that the Tory pact with the DUP won't last and there will be another general election soon.
ReplyDeleteKevin,
In all the confusion, relief and exhaustion we should all pause for a minute and reflect on what we’ve just achieved. We played a serious role in stopping a landslide that the Tories arrogantly took for granted just a few weeks ago.
So, should we be surprised any more, after Brexit, after Trump and after Jeremy Corbyn winning the Labour leadership twice? In all the confusion that is bound to ensue in a hung parliament, the one thing we know is this – people hunger for change.
We don’t know what is going to happen next, it looks like a Tory/DUP minority regressive alliance. But that looks hard to sustain given the need to negotiate Brexit. Much more likely is another election sometime soon. Brace yourselves.

Well, it's looks like that pact won't last that long. As horrible as the Tories are, the rest of the United Kingdom are not going to like the DUP.
DeleteVoters duped by the DUP?
ReplyDeleteOne of the greatest nights EVER! I got so drunk I missed out on some seriously good results. My neighbours would have complained but they were celebrating as hard as me. Huge cheer went up at 10 pm with the exit poll predicting a hung parliament.
ReplyDeleteI just heard that Labour took Kensington and Chelsea! Even with the boundary changes, this may still be the richest borough in the UK - and it was captured by a party led by a Marxist!
May will not survive for long, but whether the Tories will call an election and possibly get beaten is another matter. They may just stumble along for as long as possible and as a result not deliver Brexit. If so, there'll be a backlash from the country...
Watch out for lefties getting all worked up about the DUP's anti-gay, anti-woman, creationists views, while screaming "racist" at anyone who criticizes Islam for its anti-gay, anti-woman creationist beliefs.
ReplyDeleteJohn the people with the wealth are older people... boomers ...
ReplyDeleteIt's an age demographic not wealth demographic....
You can't say Corbin represents "the rich" ....
How do you guys square up this:
ReplyDelete"This may still be the richest borough in the UK - and it was captured by a party led by a Marxist! "
With all of your anti rich people Schlick?
It wasn't a victory but it wasn't a 'defeat' either and yeah my guess is will back doing it again in October.
ReplyDeleteTBH not happy everyone in all parties are tired, was outside my count (stood for the Green Party again in a heavy Tory area so no point in standing down) in the early hours chatting to opposition activists and pretty much all were groaning as it's been 3 years pretty much non stop campaigning.
Ralph you really do talk nonsense. It was the lefties pointing out the right wing hyprocracy of selling arms to Saudi etc. Our policy to the human rights in Saudi are quite clear but of course the MSM don't report that as it would offend our 'friends'. What we are saying is don't be a racist dick about it.
Matt: "How do you guys square up...With all of your anti rich people Schlick?"
ReplyDeleteKensington and Chelsea may be a fantastically rich borough, it does nevertheless house many poor people from the age of social democratic housing policies. These people have yet to suffer the gentrification of other parts of the UK, and places like New York. Even so, the average house price, which includes all the social housing and the tiny studio flats, is over $2 million. A decent sized house will go for $10 million.
As for the alleged anti rich stuff, our issue is with all the fraud, tax havens, regulatory capture and lopsided policies that enrich the rich and impoverish the rest. It also engenders a low growth, high debt and financially unstable economy. If that's anti rich, then the whole country falls into that category. Come on, Matt, you're no economic illiterate. You know full well these neoliberal policies are a disaster. If people have decent jobs, decent homes, decent education, decent healthcare and decent pensions, they couldn't care less about how many Ferraris some tasteless oaf crashes each year. What pisses them off is that the tasteless oaf is making out like a bandit on their misery.
