Georges Seldes first wrote about fake news in Freedom of the Press (1935), detailing accounts of newspaper fraud dating back to his first job as a reporter around 1910.

ReplyDeleteIn an age of fake news, considering whether information is true is less important than whether it is useful for supporting a worldview, or discounting that of others. Thus, the utility of information is now more important than its veracity.
