I used to wonder why third world countries did not diversify. The reason why the West is so rich is not because of its superior technology, but because its gets raw materials and manufactured goods cheap from third world countries and it keeps the system like that. After giving countries loans it tells countries to develop cash crops like coffee, but it tells loads of other countries to do the same thing and so the price collapses.
