J. W. Mason — The Wit and Wisdom of Trygve Haavelmo

More philosophy of economics, or foundations, if you prefer. Good read if you are into this. It runes along the lines of what amateur economist and working physicist Jason Smith has been saying about foundations.

  1. Reminds me of architects back in the eighties beating their breasts, worried about the incursion of project managers (techno-bean counters) into their field, and architects’ diminishing relevance – what did they have to offer?

Philosophy of economics and philosophy of science seem to be struggling with the same type of angst, although the physicists are more at ease with the philosophers.

The more cross pollination there is the better:

A Fight for the Soul of Science

Questioning Truth, Reality and the Role of Science

A Physicist’s Physicist Ponders the Nature of Reality

Problem is their mental world is so ethereal and voice so wispered in the pandemonium of the world.
