Aside: If this is considered wonkish in the UK, the country has a problem.
Tax Research UK
For MMT (long and wonkish)
Richard Murphy | Professor of Practice in International Political Economy at City University, London; Director of Tax Research UK; non-executive director of Cambridge Econometrics, and a member of the Progressive Economy Forum
I was thinking earlier that the present Labour Party seems to be fairly left, but MMT academics often say there is no need to tax the rich. But this can be misinterpreted because what the MMTers's are really saying is that there is no need to tax the rich to raise revenue, but if a government feels the need to tax the rich for other reasons, like to control their power and political influence, then that's fine. Randy Wray is akways saying this.
ReplyDeleteA very good article, Richard Murphy is superb. He's a Quaker who attends Wandsworth Meeting House, I believe. I live in South London so I will journey up there one Sunday to see him when I recover from my long term illness. We will have a great chinwag. I was a Quaker once and might become one again.
