Anthony Cuthbertson - ‘QUANTUM APOCALYPSE’: HOW ULTRA-POWERFUL COMPUTERS COULD CRIPPLE GOVERNMENTS AND EFFECTIVELY BREAK THE INTERNET

These new quantum computers will break all our encryption systems by overcoming them in seconds, or minutes, warn experts.

A hacker may try to get into your account by trying one random computer generated password after another. If you have a 16 digit password it will take him years to get in, but with a quantum computer it will take maybe seconds or minutes.

'Our modern systems of finance, commerce, communication, transportation, manufacturing, energy, government, and healthcare will for all intents and purposes cease to function,' cyber security expert warns

Update: I've just thought of a way around the problem, which all encryptionionists would be aware of, I'm sure; most sites only let you try a password a few times before they lock you out for a few minutes, and if you keep getting it wrong they lock you out for longer. But systems could easily be designed to only allow a person to enter a password once every few seconds, maybe 10 to 20 seconds. Present day computers wouldn't be able to keep up with millions of passwords being entered anyway.
