Free money makes people happy! Basic income improves people's mental well-being but is 'unsustainable', Finnish trial finds
What a shame! Warren Mosler said in a recent tweet that if money is created at the central bank to pay for a Basic Income it could work, but your playing with fire. With MMT, he says, money creation is tied to the Job Guarantee.
An experiment with 'free money' in Finland made people happier but did not improve employment levels and would be 'unsustainable', a study has found.
Participants in the Finnish study 'were more satisfied with their lives and experienced less mental strain, depression, sadness and loneliness,' researchers said.
But the Finnish study found that the handout led to people being employed for only six more days over a one-year period.

How does a job guarantee work when you are under a shutdown?
ReplyDeleteA JG becomes a temporary UBI during a shutdown. But it is preferred to give these income streams another name, like unemployment insurance or welfare.
ReplyDeleteIf we're not going to commit to full employment, then a UBI or national dividend is an alternative, along with price controls.
”experienced less mental strain, depression, sadness and loneliness,' researchers said. ”
ReplyDeleteWe cannot have that. That is only for those at the top so they can feel special about themself and tell those under them to get a grip, lighten up, if you work hard enough your dreams will come true etc.
Nice conspiracy theory!
ReplyDelete(S, I’m going to have to drop you down 0.3 grade points for this you’re back down to a 3.3)
