When bank leverage is rising in this way, the most effective offset is shedding assets.
Squirrel gets a nut...
And btw for MNE commie peanut gallery... checkmate! AGAIN! .... for like the 1005th time!
Josh Younger's third (and final) post tries to draw lessons from the "basis" crisis of March.https://t.co/9ZUGGInkUL— Brad Setser (@Brad_Setser) July 24, 2020
Are you drunk? Still haven’t learned the rules of chess.
ReplyDeleteBabble about check mate again doesn’t work. Neither does art degree envy or commie babble.
ReplyDeleteWhan the chips were down, the silly SLR rule buckled.
ReplyDeleteThere is no law without enforcement. Unless and until the Fed is not just prepared, but declares, precisely how it will put a bank that violates the 'ratios' though administration, it ia all just a power play. One where the Fed will buckle at the first sign of trouble.
And this will continue, as did the Gold standard, until we finally get full disintermediation and an unlimited 0% overdraft at the central bank.
For that to happen we have to purge the last vestiges of Monetarism - the idea that Yellow Dollars are somehow different from Green Dollars.
and an unlimited 0% overdraft at the central bank. NeilW
ReplyDeleteIn other words, a fully fascist banking model.
The ethical alternative is 100% private banks with 100% voluntary depositors with an equal Citizen's Dividend to replace all fiat creation for banks and other private interests.
Neil it is soooooo bad this is what they said to banks at one point : “use your liquidity buffers!” ... like they were REAL!
ReplyDeleteI’m not making it up!
I've been looking at the Reserve Bank of Australia accounts recently for a few reasons. If you think the Fed is backward, go look at them. It's positively Victorian.
ReplyDeleteThey still have gold as a prominent line item on the main balance sheet rather then rolling it into Other Assets alongside the SDRs.
Neil they have been doing QE there and collapsing the LR and the thing is rolling over... I fear the worst...
ReplyDeleteThey skated the GFC as they were in surplus...
Really your BOE has the best handle on all of this of all the CBs...
