ReplyDeleteMy parents next door neighbour had his 80-something father put in an old folks home when his father was no longer able to wipe his own ass.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the abrasive language but it's the exact words he used to explain to me why he put his father in a home: "When he couldn't wipe his own ass, that was it for me."
I've been taking care of my soon-to-be 92-yr-old father (diagnosed with dementia 3 yrs ago) full time these last three years (by "full time" I mean that I spend about 14 hours a day at my parents' home). Not passing judgment on the Frenchman, all of us have different limits I guess...
I admire the Italians and the Spanish who have closer families and old folk who live at home with them.
DeleteAssisted suicide should be available. We live in a death-denying culture, where people don't even consider their quality of life, until its too late.
