Shipping Container Shortages In China Crimp Exports To West — Tyler Durden

Just how high can Asia-U.S. East Coast spot rates go? Well, the cost of chartering a 40-foot container from China to the US East Coast soared to nearly $5k this week, up 85% since June 1, according to Freightos data in Refinitiv Eikon....

That's one way to look at it. My take is that is about employment in China. The US should have recognized that the real benefits of a currency account deficit outweigh the cost in terms of the capital account surplus at full employment. The US was and is getting a deal in exchanging paper for goods, but only if the US makes up for the loss in employment to imported labor. That could have been done but was not.

This is especially important at a time when the historical dialectic is favoring decolonization, which is actually a win-win in terms of the world system. The West should stop resisting it by trying to impose neoliberalism, which includes neo-imperialism and neocolonialism, and the US should abandon its foreign policy of world domination.

This is not primarily about China hoarding dollars. So is Japan. The issue is balancing the world economy as a real system, in which the financial system should paly a supporting role rather than the lead.

  3. I really can't think of anything that I want from China this holiday season.

There is one thing I want, though, and for sure it won't be coming from China -- a coherent, rigorous chemistry textbook. That's it.

The only, or one of the very few, EXCELLENT online resource for learning Chemistry is Jim Clark's site chemguide.co.uk. The site is free. And who is Jim Clark?

-- a Cambridge graduate with over 30 years of teaching experience at this level.

-- was Head of Chemistry and then Head of Science at Truro School in Cornwall.

--- took early retirement in 1997 and has since concentrated on writing.

-- is the author of Calculations in AS/A Level Chemistry published by Longman (September 2000). Follow the link to find out more about the book.

-- is the author of Longman GCSE Chemistry published by Longman (May 2002). This is now out of print.

I just received his calculations workbook, and his textbook should be arriving any day now... by airmail! ;)

Btw, the American science education site education.jlab.org was disappointing. Too much dumbing down and misinformation. I am not kidding. In one example, it talks about electrons "orbiting" the atom's nucleus!!!

  4. Its a delicate balance between the gravitational force of the nucleus and the centrifugal force derived from the mass of the electron. In rare cases, an electron may capture a smaller sub-atomic particle, or moon.

  5. Not even the half of it.

To put it bluntly the whole supply chain is totally fucked. We are doing what we can but its not enough, we wre suffereing with equipment shortages (the empty comtainers are in the wromg place) capacity issues, staffing issues etc etc and yet compam9es are throwing more and more orders in.

    Baloney, Tom.

The US has exported genuine skills and expertise and make-work via a JG won't fix that.

The correct response is to eliminate non-negative yields on inherently risk-free US sovereign debt and to prohibit foreign ownership of real US assets such as land.

And then foreigners won't have illegitimate incentitives to export to the US.

What's with the seditious, un-American sentiment? You buddies with Ken Paxton or something?

And for the record, the official NFL footballs are made in Ohio. So if you want one, just ask the Governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine. And don't bring up the insane, frivolous Texas lawsuit.

PS: Sometimes I wonder if Matt is truly hardcore MAGA and not some guy simply trolling us here. I also wouldn't be surprised at all if he has an Arts degree(s).

  13. I have Bachelors of Science in a stem discipline from land grant university and half a masters of science...

And I appreciate Art immensely..,, I just don’t try to do it... I just appreciate it... way more than average...

The problem is you Art degree assholes don’t reciprocate...

  14. and half a masters of science.....

    —————-

We already knew that. Complete the other half, it’s the last part that puts it all together

    ReplyDelete
  15. And reciprocate what? We don’t reciprocate by appreciating your twisted, half ass view of what counts as science!?

YOU don’t have the standing to adjudicate what is or isn’t science you prick! You are NOT QUALIFIED

    ReplyDelete
  16. And I have a FULL Masters of Science degree but you seem to include me with Art Degree people..... I’m not insulted but I do want to clarify since degrees seem be such a big deal with you.

  17. Greg,

According to this show, the word "Masters" is being cancelled.

Sorry about your degree loss especially since your remaining degree is BS anyway ;)

Btw, all I have is a BSEE plus another BS minus 3 hours (I did not want the stigma of a Psychology Degree).

  18. The trick is to do the last half of the Masters under par.
