Transcript of Joe Biden's Speech on Foreign Policy Transcript February 4: “America is Back”

As anticipated, a restatement of Wilsonian liberal internationalism based on American exceptionalism and global dominance. It's a speech that Hillary Clinton could have delivered.

Basically the same line we've heard since the end of WWII and the ramp up of the Cold War. Compare with the forward looking speeches of Xi and Putin. No vision.  No systems awareness, or situational awareness. Lots of looking back and wishful thinking based on it. Idealistic and not realistic.

Fail.

What these articles overlook is the deep divide in the US between American liberal and American conservative factions, where the split is about 50-50. Such a country is ungovernable, especially in a federal systems where different regions come under the control of opposing power factions. Couple this with change in power on a regular basis through elections and it is impossible to predict US policy and behavior. Add to this the fact that the US has a poor record in keeping its word.

The articles also overlook American hypocrisy regarding its stated ideals that it seeks to impose abroad while not living up to them at home.

  2. Right. No surprise. It's the bipartisan party line.
