Al-Masdar News — Iran’s Supreme Leader calls on military to raise its readiness after nuclear reactor incident
If Iran really, really wanted a nuclear bomb, they would have had one already. But they know the international uproar it would cause. So threaten you’re going to make one unless sanctions are lifted. I think the polite, diplomatic term is “leverage.”
So what they really, really, really want is the lifting of the sanctions.
The Iranians I came across in university were very well educated.

I didn't keep in touch. They're gone.
I said to them upon graduation: "Guys, move away from here." Said "Californy is the place you ought to be." So they loaded up their U-hauls and moved to Beverly. Hills, that is. Swimmin' pools, movie stars. The Iranian Hillbillies!
