Omega-3 Fish Oil Supplements Linked With Heart Rhythm Disorder

“Currently, fish oil supplements are indicated for patients with elevated plasma triglycerides to reduce cardiovascular risk,”[2] said study author Dr. Salvatore Carbone of Virginia Commonwealth University, US. “Due to the high prevalence of elevated triglycerides in the population, they can be commonly prescribed. Of note, low dose omega-3 fatty acids are available over the counter, without the need for a prescription.”

Some clinical trials have suggested that omega-3 fatty acids may be associated with an increased risk for atrial fibrillation, the most common heart rhythm disorder. People with the disorder have a five times greater likelihood of having a stroke.[3]

  1. Oil supplements (of whatever kind) are rancid.

Just because criminals like Dr Oz push said rancid pills (along with the other shit he pushes on Americans to pop, and of course he's laughing all the way to the bank), doesn't mean they're safe.

Instead, eat the damn fish in moderation. Not only do you get the benefits of the oils but protein and other good stuff as well. Promise :)

    1. The problem occured with pharmaceutical grade, not the low dose ITC version, but it's flagged up a risk. Yes, it's best to get your nutrients through a good diet.

  2. Supplements OTC are not regulated. Best to avoid all supplements.

Btw, I am on the fence as to whether beer is a food or not ;)

    1. It doesn't satisfy hunger. I remember as a young man knocking back the beer all night, then with all my mates having a massive curry, or kebab after.

Fructose and alcohol are closely related, and neither trigger a feeling of being full.

  3. Chief Inspector Morse : I can't handle drugs. I can't figure out why they do it. It's beyond me.

Detective Sergeant Lewis : Oh, come on. You know. People, kids, down sometimes, I suppose. The same reason you drink beer.

Chief Inspector Morse : Beer is food.

Detective Sergeant Lewis : It is with you.
