China threatens to Nuke Australia. That's new and fresh. Previously, Chinese leadership avoided direct discussion of nuclear deterrent and instead simply behaved with the unspoken assumption that was always an option.
Nothing about nukes while conventional is mentioned.
Moreover, the Global Times is not "China." The article is an op/ed by the editor-in-chief of the Global Times, which is state-sponsored but not an official organ of the state.
