Who said the Russians never smile?
Description
1920's Flappers in USSR | 1929 AI Enhanced Film [60 fps,4k]
Roaring Twenties Soviet Union in 1929. Brought to life with AI. Filmed largely in Odessa, Ukraine.
Not exactly the image which history has left us of the former USSR.
You had to go back almost a 100 years to find a smilin' Russian, didn't you, K? ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, things seem to be more miserable nowadays. Probably due to neoliberalism.
DeleteThe commenter displays an astonishing lack of historical knowledge. It would help if someone were to make clear the different eras in Soviet history, e.g. the period of the war against the white army (and the subsequent genocide of the Don Tartars under Lenin), the "happy days" of the late Lenin and later 1920s, before collectivization, the Ukrainian famine and the purges, the return to Russian nationalism and Conservatism in rallying the populace against the Nazis, etc....
ReplyDeleteI recommend Vera Dunham's excellent 1876 book, In Stalin's Time: Middleclass Values in Soviet Fiction (Studies of the Harriman Institute)
