China rolls out 916,000 5G stations, making up 70% of global total — Global Times

To date, the country has deployed a total of 916,000 5G base stations, accounting for 70 percent of the world's total, and the number of 5G-connected devices has exceeded 365 million now, making up 80 percent of the world's total, said Liu Liehong, vice minister of MIIT at the 2021 China Internet Conference which convened in Beijing on Tuesday.

The three-year action plan sets the goal to reach more than 560 million 5G users by 2023, with the penetration rate of 5G technology exceeding 40 percent among Chinese users, and form an initial 5G ecosystem in the country consisting of ultrafast mobile connection and accelerated digital consumption .

The plan also focuses on advancing digital transformation of key industries by prioritizing 5G application such as invigorating a full-fledging industrial internet.
