It's over. It's pretty clear that German business interests won although MA doesn't draw that conclusion directly. US opposition was clearly anti-competitive.

If your cost of production and delivery is higher than the competition then you either have to bow to the competition or create artificial scarcity.
Paying higher prices for US LNG would increase production costs for German firms and they were having none of it. Merkel got the message loud and clear.

If the US is opposing cartel pricing in opposing Nordstream 2, they should say so and not cook up a story about the US "protecting" Germany from the bad Russkies when German, a sovereign state, doesn't want "protection". It's obvious to anyone with half a brain that this is propaganda. The "protection" involved is Mafia-style. How to lose an ally.
