Yanis Varoufakis - My proposal is a Universal Basic Dividend

Paying for UBI should not come from taxation. If capital is socially produced why are the returns to capital privatized? My proposal is what we call a universal basic dividend. A percentage of all shares should go into a public equity trust like a wealth fund for society. - Yanis Varoufakis

    It does not attack the inflation, poverty or unemployment problems, but it does help in reducing wealth inequality, and can complement direct provision of employment. So a useful little proposal, but not game changing.
