US Counting on Putin To Signal Before Using Nukes (In my view, it is a very dangerous mistake to think that this is about Putin rather than chiefly about Russia. If Putin were to suddenly pass away, his likely successor would be a hardliner much less to the liking of the West. Supposing that regime change would result in a Western friendly liberal government in Russia is simply delusional. Both the Russian leadership and the vast majority of Russians are assume that the objective the West, and the US and UK in particular, is to submit Russia first before moving on to submit China, locking in Western (read white) supremacy. There is no good endgame in a zero-sum game such as the West has set up. Actually, many strategists think that the US will go nuclear before Russia or China if it perceives itself as being defeated militarily, or even losing face, such as the sinking of a carrier group with only conventional weapons, something that both Russia and China can now potentially do.)
