Joe Romm — NASA Finds ‘Amazing’ Levels Of Arctic Methane And CO2, Asks ‘Is a Sleeping Climate Giant Stirring in the Arctic?’

Projects an added 1.5F degrees by 2100 due to the carbon sink reversing to become a carbon tap. as the permafrost melts.

This also means that the carbon sink is no longer available for emissions generated in the future. So there will be the release of past emission that were stored and along with present emissions. Double whammy.

How does the oxygen get down under the ground to oxidize the carbon?

Or are they only talking about the surface materials? If so, would not some sort of vegetation start to grow on the surface which would start the carbon sequestration process again?

"Closed system" principles seem to be missing here also...
