David Cameron says "there's not as much social mobility as there needs to be." I wonder why he believes this, because some of the apparently plausible reasons don't bear inspection...Stumbling and Mumbling

Social mobility encourages the notion of meritocracy over heredity in bestowing privilege, but it doesn't address social inequality or the bias of the particular system of merit. Increasing social mobility is not necessarily a solution to the social dysfunction of widespread poverty and extreme inequality. Horatio Alger proves nothing.
