Does Australia Have A Peak "National Economy and Economic Research Council" Worthy Of That Name?

   (Commentary posted by Roger Erickson.)

Do we, here in the USA?

Australia National Health and Medical Research Council

"AFTER a lengthy investigation the nation’s peak medical research body has delivered its verdict on homeopathic remedies — they are useless for human health."

Fascinating!

Pity they or an equivalent Council can't declare NeoLiberalism and orthodox macroeconomics equally useless ..... & worse, downright harmful, to ALL aspects of public health.

Bill Mitchell write:

"The NHMRC is the major funding body in Australia for medical research. Its counterpart ... is the Australian Research Council (ARC) which is the equivalent of your NSF.

There is no foundation of the type you dream about. Public funding for the economy obviously is via the fiscal statement made each May (the Annual ‘don’t say the word’ Budget statement).

If only it behaved like the research funding bodies and handed out money based on merit!!"

Same situation here in the states. We have the FDA & CDC & EPA to protect public health from poor or shoddy process modeling ... but nothing to protect our population from it's own, shoddy economic policy modeling.

We've placed our fiscal policy faith in the hands of the loudest and/or wealthiest charlatans.

Werks fur mi!
