“German finance minister supports democracy for Greece” Nice soundbite. The reality is that when a country joins a common currency area or even just a free trade zone like the EU, it loses the right to decide its own destiny in numerous ways. And where a country becomes heavily indebted and/or is clearly incompetent, it loses even more “democratic” rights.
No it doesn't.
The trade off continues as before.
It's always important to remember that democracy is the right of a people to change their mind about what they want to do.
The problem in Greece is that what the people want is contradictory.
The slide to corporatism can be halted if the political will is there.
