People prefer good news over bad news.
That bias is the theme of Jeremy Grantham's new quarterly message to GMO's clients.…

To illustrate how this bias pervades society, Grantham identified 12 ways the US is thought to be a global leader. And in his charting, he reveals how the facts tell a different, more depressing story.

"It is my attempt to bring home how extreme is our preference for good news over accurate news," he said.

The fact that desperate people from around the world want to go to America is irrelevant when the issue is why the American working and middle classes are now being stiffed.

Yes, even Alabama and Tennessee look heavenly to someone from Somalia. The issue is why so much of America is becoming a wasteland, and why so many working Americans feel that their circumstances are grim. The fact that a Somali wants to go to America is an irrelevant argument to the millions of Americans who've lost their jobs and their homes.

The British destroyed India. Indians coming to the UK isn't an argument for how well the British governed India.
