Abby Martin - What You’re Not Being Told About Venezuela Crisis

Is the Venezuelan crisis orchestrated because you can't buy toilet paper but you can buy tissue paper quite easily? And so a number of other things are strangely not available either, although meat and cheese are plentiful. Abby Martin says that Venezuela  is under financial attack from the US and the Venezuelan elite, and that the price of oil was manipulated to harm the Venezuelan economy to bring its government down.

Venezuela sits on top of some of the largest oil reserves in the world and the elite want it. Despite democracy, despite liberal, fair, and decent values that the West proclaims to believe in, and despite 'capitalism ',  where we let the markets decide and the best products win, it seems that the elite sit around and discuss how they are going to grab Venezuela's resources for themselves?

First, there was cooperation in tribes and life in the commons, with tribes eventually struggling with each other for territory as population grew and resources became scarce.

Then the rule of the strong.

After than, the rule of law.

But that lasts only until the strong realize that they could can capture the government and create a couple standard of justice, one for themselves and the other for "the little people."

Unless "the little people" realize that they are stronger in numbers and coordinated power, they will be ruled by the double standard, which is the basis of neoliberalism, neo-impererialism, and neocolonialism. "Power to the People."

So, there really is no hyper-inflation in Venezuela as inflation tops 46,305 percent? There are no price controls?

“Rich neoliberals in Venezuela, allied with the U.S. Empire, are hoarding consumer goods in order to wage economic war on Venezuela’s government. An example is Lorenzo Mendoza, President of Empresas Polar, the largest company in Venezuela that makes and packages food and consumer goods. One consequence of this elitist war has been high INFLATION.” ~ Abby Martin

“So there is no inflation in Venezuela?” ~ An idiot reader, commenting above

The inflation story is one of the reasons given for the necessity for liberal intervention based on R2P.

I am pretty sure that by now most peoepe that understands MMT know that inflation is a consequence of government policy, and not the consequence of some companies...

It's about the oil. Trump wants to take the oil. He already asked his advisers about invading Venezuela some time ago, but they nixed it. That was McMaster and Tillerson. They are gone now, replaced by Bolton and Pompeo.

There is pretty good reason to think that the US is actively involved in fomenting regime change there as in many other countries.

Sure the US position is probably to support a different party there that can provide better material results...

But that is a far cry from invasion...

Trump probably looks at the situation and is concerned about more illegal aliens invading the US...

This is another situation where you guys who didn’t vote for trump should not be allowed to comment on his policies...

Maduro has ordered the Venezuelan army to mobilize against invasion and it is warning the US that it will another Vietnam, with the implication that the US will be defeated and have to withdraw as it did from Vietnam. Maduro is taking the threat very seriously, and Evo Morales, president of Bolivia, has been warning about a US invasion of Venezuela for some time, too. Maduro is aware, of course, that the US instigated a failed coup against Chavez that was almost successful.
