At What Point Do Russiagaters Lose Faith?
Russia-gate is not about “faith.” It is about addiction.
Here’s why…
Life in the USA gets worse every day. Housing prices and inequality are out of control. Homelessness keeps expanding. Student loan debt bondage keeps worsening. Wages remain stagnant. Private health care and health insurance are unaffordable. Nuclear war is a growing possibility. Franko is a growing fool – and on and on.
Amid this nightmare, many people use the Russia-gate hoax to deaden their minds and escape from reality. They distract themselves by pretending that neoliberal Democrats are different from Republicans. Since this delusion conflicts with reality, they run faster and faster to escape from reality, until their escape becomes an addiction. Corporate media outlets support this addiction by broadcasting all-Russia-gate, all-the-time.
Identity politics is likewise fueled by a desire to escape from reality. Some people see “homophobes” and “anti-Semites” everywhere. Some see “sexual harassment” and “toxic masculinity.” Some see “terrorists” and “fascists.” All these are escapes that people become addicted to.
Politicians also sustain this addiction. As an advisor to Trump, Omarosa Newman said Hillary Clinton was corrupt. Then, for reasons that have not been made public, Newman was fired by Trump on 13 Dec 2017. Immediately she slithered over to the Russia-gate side, saying that Trump is a Russian agent, Trump threatens the planet, Hillary was “robbed,” and so on.
Many peasants guzzle this sewage as an escape from reality.
Caitlin Johnstone: “Since last year, Russia-gaters have been insisting that various Trump insiders are going to ‘flip’ any minute now. They said Flynn’s about to flip. They said Papadopoulos is about to flip. They said Gates is about to flip. They said Cohen is about to flip. They said Manafort is about to flip. “
Like I said, addiction. Any time now, the slot machine will finally pay off. My horse or my lottery numbers will finally win.
Any day now.
Any day now.
What addicts crave is not winning, but the anticipation of winning, since the anticipation lets them escape. [Winning actually depresses them.] Likewise, Russia-gaters are addicted to the anticipation that Mueller might actually produce something.
Any day now.
Any day now.
He’s gonna flip!
He’s gonna flip!
The purpose of all this?
Escape.
