Jeff Cox - Ocasio-Cortez reportedly in line for banking post, and that could be bad news for Wall Street

Big banks could be about to get a high-profile enemy in a very powerful place.
Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is a registered Democrat but identifies as a democratic socialist, is in line to be appointed to the House Financial Services Committee, according to a Politico report.
The New York legislator has vowed to take on the industry that makes up the corporate backbone for much of her constituency. She said during her successful campaign in 2018, in which she refused corporate donors and upset entrenched incumbent Democrat Joe Crowley, that she was hoping for an assignment that would allow her to take on big finance.

Thus the posting of nude selfies attributes to her.

Just wait, you ain't seen nothing yet. There is no telling what the banks will do to get rid of her.

“There is no telling what the banks will do to get rid of her.”

Ocasio-Cortez’ populist defiance has enraged bankers, plus Wall Street, big corporate donors, and corporate Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer. The latter are frustrated because Ocasio-Cortez has 2.2 million Twitter followers who hang on her every word. (Pelosi and Hoyer are despised by all, but they have Wall Street behind them.)

Ocasio-Cortez is always courteous and personable to everyone. That makes her very dangerous to the bankers and oligarchs. One way or another she must be eliminated.

I discussed her in my comments to this blog post…

Corporate Democrats have used several tricks against Ocasio-Cortez that backfired.

Perhaps you have seen that video of her dancing when she was attending Boston University. The circulation of this old video was meant as a smear, but it endeared Ocasio-Cortez to many. Even some right wing males took note. (“Wow, she’s cute!”)

Corporate media outlets say the video was posted by right-wingers, but I suspect it was posted by corporate Democrat operatives who wanted make Ocasio-Cortez look silly. They dug up “dirt,” but it turned out to be political gold.

If Ocasio-Cortez really wants to infuriate corporate Democrats, she should raise her anti-war rhetoric a notch or two. Recent polls show that today’s Democrats are far more pro-war than are Republicans.

In ancient Rome, whenever the senator Cato the Elder made a speech on any topic, he always ended it with Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam (“And furthermore, Carthage must be destroyed!”).

I imagine it is the same with private conversations between corporate Democrats.

“And furthermore that Puerto Rican bitch must be destroyed!”

Why just big banks? Do not small banks and credit unions enjoy the same privileges from government as big banks? I.e., are little thieves any less criminal than big thieves?

Hence, if her focus is just "big banks", I see little reason to hope for genuine reform.

True liberals and lefties are nice people, so they are no force against evil. Good doesn't win in the end - it's the winners that get to write history. But this time we have to win.

Banks don't need to do anything to oppose her. Unless she has any SPECIFIC AND GOOD IDEAS as to how to improve the bank industry (and she doesn't seem to have any), then banks just have to sit back and watch her make a fool of herself.

Andrew, Why don't you open a bank? If Banks are given this extraordinary power and lucrative right, the costs are very low and barriers few to opening a bank. You do need some capital, but you seem like a smart guy, you could easily figure out how to raise your initial capital and take advantage of these privileges?
