Max Blumenthal - Rapture Ready

Well, it's not my idea of Christianity, where we were taught at school to love our enemies and turn the other cheek. We were taught about sharing and compassion and helping the needy - where Jesus said blessed are the poor for they shall inherit the Earth. We were taught about forgiveness and universal love. We were taught that being greedy was bad.

Christians United for Israel are campaigning for a war with Iran and say the Muslims are controlled by the Devil. They want a war with Islam, but they say nothing about Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and Deash -  the terrorist, Jihadist Wahhabism which originates from Saudi Arabia. They only talk about Iran which hasn't started a war for centuries.

They say the Anti-Christ will come as a peacemaker who will bring peace between the Muslims and the Jews, but Christ will come and bring war, where all the non believers, like me, will be murdered - and all the non-Christian women and children too. They really like the idea, and they like nuclear war even more!

Is it being driven by big money and corruption - John Hagee, their preacher, earns millions and lives a mansion? He is opulent.

Chris Hedges says these Christians are fascists and their religion is not Christianity. You're telling me!

Max Blumenthal's latest takes us on a shocking and at times bizarre tour of right-wing Pastor John Hagee's annual Washington-Israel Summit, blowing the cover off the Christian Zionist movement in the process. Starring Joe Lieberman, Tom DeLay, Pastor John Hagee, Ambassador Dore Gold and a host of rapture-ready evangelicals praying for Armaggedon.

As usual, Biblical ignorance is to blame:

Alas, you who are longing for the day of the Lord,
For what purpose will the day of the Lord be to you?
It will be darkness and not light;
As when a man flees from a lion
And a bear meets him,
Or goes home, leans his hand against the wall
And a snake bites him.
Will not the day of the Lord be darkness instead of light,
Even gloom with no brightness in it?

“I hate, I reject your festivals,
Nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies.
“Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them;
And I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings.

“Take away from Me the noise of your songs;
I will not even listen to the sound of your harps.
“But let justice roll down like waters
And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
Amos 5:18-24

Rác ở trên được viết bởi người Do Thái cho người Do Thái. Tôi không phải là người Do Thái. Do đó rác này là vô nghĩa với tôi.

All four of these sentences convey the same timeless wisdom.

These people aren't Fascists. They are Calvinists—which might be argued is probably a LOT worse. They most certainly do not represent all Christians in USA, but culturally they are dominant. From John D. Rockefeller the Baptist Sunday School teacher, to Puritan Harvard, to the Scopes trial, to the modern Bible banger who defrauds the gullible with "prosperity gospel", the common thread is Calvinism with their core doctrines of predestination and the glorification of the wealthy "elect." Of course poor Hedges cannot call these evil people Calvinists—being a Presbyterian preacher's kid and all.

The version of Christianity I was taught claimed warfare was a sin, that fundamentalism was a serious theological error, and that science was a lofty pursuit where honest and diligent people sought to discover more of nature's (God's) laws. Both of my grandfathers refused to register for the draft during WW I. My father believed that Jesus was the original cooperator and belonged to about a dozen coops. He agreed with F. Krupp and Otto von Bismarck that the social welfare state was necessary for the prevention of Socialist Error. It was a Christianity that proclaimed that no necessary work was unimportant so should be honored and done for the glory of God.

My version of Christianity was central to the most successful countries on earth for over 400 years—yes we are the Nordic Lutherans and we win all important international competitions for happiness and social order. And to think, we started out as Vikings!
