On twitter AOC put out a video with her in her kitchen making dinner, while saying the problem was not left-wing or right-wing governments, it was about democratic, liberal governments and undemocratic authoritarian ones. She seemed to be implying that China, Venezuela, Bolivia, etc, were all in the firing line. So, she's another war-monger, a liberal interventionist. And I once admired Cenk Uygur too, but he's even worse.
Since comedian Jimmy Dore called on progressive members of Congress to pressure Nancy Pelosi to hold a floor vote on Medicare For All, a collection of media personalities have launched vicious attacks against Dore while deflecting from his overwhelmingly popular argument. Well, AOC said there was some horse trading happening behind the scenes. I suspected it was over PAYGO and I was right. Now there are PAYGO exemptions for "economic or public health consequences” of Covid-19 or climate crisis. A genuine victory & rule change. PAYGO isn't dead, but it's wounded.
Was it enough? Could more have been gotten with a bruising fight? Who knows? But this isn't nothing. So suggesting that AOC & other progressives have sold out seems unwarranted to me.
Agree, Calgacus. She & squad are learning how to play the game. Games are made up of rules and rules in politics are conventions and institutional arrangements. Skilled politicians known how to use both.
Trump & cohort (America Firsters) are attempting to write their own rules and establish their own conventions rather than work within the prevailing system, Trump being the successor to Pat Buchanan, who failed in this. They have been only partially successful in that and the GOP is somewhat split now between populists and traditional ("country club") Republicans.
Progressives have chosen not to take that route, it seems. That is not selling out. It's being practical when you are in the minority. We'll see what they can get done using this strategy and these tactics.
The strategy of the Democratic Establishment that controls the DNC is to capture the center and isolate populists on the right and progressives on the left by creating a coalition of traditional Democrats (limousine liberals) and (country club) Republicans. Big money seems to be behind this group.
They are sellouts and the Dems will be gone in 4 years. Fasten your seatbelts.
