China’s crackdown on the three mountains — Michael Roberts

The three mountains are education, healthcare, and housing. This is what ordinary Chinese are most concerned about. The government has decided to step in to correct the imbalances from rising inequality.

They have a minimal safety net, which is equivalent to saying they want the free market to deliver public services.

In other words, working as designed.
