I called a coffee roaster yesterday to ask if he had unroasted coffee beans for sale. He says that he's willing to sell me a kilo of beans for $90. $90 a kilo for Columbian green beans! What the hell -- for $90 I can get 4 kilos of roasted Columbian coffee, or a couple of kilos of the real McCoy Ethiopian coffee.
I dunno, I'm wondering if my politeness over the phone might not have given him the impression that I was an idiot :(

For real coffee connoisseurs, there is civet coffee.
Kopi luwak is a coffee that consists of partially digested coffee cherries, which have been eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). It is also called civet coffee. The cherries are fermented as they pass through a civet's intestines, and after being defecated with other fecal matter, they are collected. Asian palm civets are increasingly caught in the wild and traded for this purpose.

As an aside, I have a Tassimo coffee maker which I was using to make Americanos. One day I got tired of cleaning it, replacing water filters, etc., so I picked up a jar of Nescafe Gold Espresso instant coffee with crema. I found out that the instant coffee tasted just as good as the coffee I was getting from the machine. So, I packed up the machine and reclaimed some kitchen counter space.
