Many scientists say there is only one universe and that all the others were just mathematical probabilities. Now we have to ask how is it that the universe is so fine tuned for life?
It could be that all the others remained probabilities because they were unable to exist. This one works.

There are other states of consciousness.
Mystics swim in the waters in which psychotics drown.—Carl Jung
Sleep, coma, death.
In Islam, and according to the Qur'an, sleep is the brother of death. Coma, being a form of sleep, is also death.
That means you mentioned death three times...
Also, there is physical death and ego-death. When you say "death", you have to be more specific. In the latter case of death, it results in a higher form of consciousness.
Hence, the prophetic tradition: "Die before you die", i.e, the death of the ego before the death of the body.
Death is the highest level of unconsciousness. Mastery of this state is guaranteed.
Ego is a psychological term, in addition to common usage.
