ReplyDeleteMore of an exposition of who, where and how the ideas have been used and applied than a critique of the merits good and bad
ReplyDeleteDSL distinguishes between factual realism (scientific realism) and practical realism (pragmatism). The former is positive in the sense of value free. The latter is based on consideration of effects in the sense of making a difference in the relationship of the observer and environment (I-O relationship). Pragmatism uses normative criteria to evaluate difference, e.g., effects of analysis o policy and effect of policy on social behaviors and results.
ReplyDeleteThe contemporary critique of macro is that that is not even based on factual realism but construction of imaginary worlds. Therefore, it is of no practical use and when applied results are not as advertised.
